The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) is pleased to announce that three of its elementary schools—Golden, Lakeview, and Sierra Vista—have been designated as 2025 California Distinguished Schools, the state’s highest honor for K-12 campuses.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Allan Mucerino expressed his congratulations on behalf of the Board of Education, stating, “On behalf of the Board of Education, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on this remarkable achievement. This recognition is a testament to our district’s unwavering dedication to providing an exceptional educational experience that empowers all students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The success of our students, alongside our commitment to closing achievement gaps, is made possible by the hard work and passion of our teachers, classified staff, administrators, and the unwavering support of our families and community.”
The California Distinguished Schools program, managed by the California Department of Education (CDE), selects schools based on a thorough analysis of data reported through the 2024 Dashboard. The selection process emphasizes excellence and growth in academic achievement, as well as the establishment of a positive school climate.
State Superintendent Tony Thurmond shared in a press release, “It is my honor to recognize these 336 elementary schools for their efforts to provide exemplary public education to all students. Outstanding elementary schools play a crucial role in shaping the future of our young people. This year’s celebration of California Distinguished Schools allows us to acknowledge the hard work of the educators and staff who help students discover their passions and experiences, which will propel them forward in life.”
Golden, Lakeview, and Sierra Vista elementary schools are no strangers to the California Distinguished Schools title, having earned this prestigious distinction multiple times in previous years. Golden received the award in 2020, 2018, 2014, and 2006; Lakeview was honored in 2023, 2014, and 2008; and Sierra Vista earned the award in 2016 and 2011.
Remarkably, these three schools are among only 44 schools in Orange County and 336 schools statewide to receive the 2025 California Distinguished Schools award.
