On August 7, 2026, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Family Resource Center hosted its annual backpack and school supply distribution at Topaz Elementary School. More than 700 students received backpacks and essential school supplies to help them begin the new school year ready to learn.
The event supports students and families enrolled in the McKinney-Vento program, which serves students experiencing housing instability, including those living in shelters, motels or hotels, shared housing, or other temporary living arrangements.
PYLUSD receives state and federal funding to support students experiencing homelessness. Through the Family Resource Center, the district provides a variety of services, including food, clothing, school supplies, and connections to community-based resources.
This year, backpacks and school supplies were generously donated by Orange County Fourth District Supervisor Doug Chaffee and Ms. Yorba Linda Teen 2026, Charlie Bowen. PYLUSD student volunteers and district staff also contributed their time to help distribute supplies and assist families throughout the event.
Additionally, Roxanne Anderson from the California State Treasurer’s Office was available to help families access their children’s CalKIDS accounts and learn more about available college savings funds.
