Yorba Linda High advanced video production students earn major awards, including Filmmaker of the Year, at OC Film Festival

On Saturday, January 6, 20 students from Richard Cadra’s Advanced Video Productions class at Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) attended the 15th annual Orange County Film Festival at Northwood High School in Irvine.

Each year, the event showcases student films and broadcasts from 16 schools in Orange County and bestows awards in 23 unique categories.  In total, seven Mustangs received 25 nominations across 15 categories.  As a whole, Mr. Cadra’s class was also nominated for best broadcast.

After all was said and done, YLHS students took home a total of ten major awards for their hard work including:

Best Broadcast Anchor – Nick Murrell and Alex Lee
Best Cinematographer – Andy Martinez and Nick Franklyn for their work on “Bedhead”
Best Independent Film – Nick Franklyn for his work on “Bedhead”
Best Original Score – Nick Franklyn for his work on “Bedhead” composed by David Valdovinos
Best Short Film – Alex Lee for her work on “Inside of Hope”
Best Story Narrative – Alex Lee for her work on “Inside of Hope”
Best Actor – Alex Lee for her work in “Inside of Hope”
Filmmaker of the Year – Alex Lee
