On Saturday, April 10, Esperanza High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Cadets had the honor of presenting the flag at a special ceremony for WWII veteran William Chan. Mr. Chan recently earned the Congressional Gold Medal, but due to COVID-19 concerns, he was unable to travel to Washington, D.C. for the award. This honor is typically bestowed upon individuals in a special ceremony in the nation’s capital.
The Aztecs were elated to pay respect to this gentleman, especially since he was a member of the Army Air Corps, the predecessor service of the Air Force. Additionally, they were thrilled to know that they were performing duties normally performed by the professional military honor guards. Way to go, EHS AFJROTC!
