On Thursday, Dec. 17, SERVE leadership from El Dorado and Valencia high schools and SERVE classes from Valencia visited Ruby Drive Elementary School for its first “Holiday Exchange.”
SERVE, which stands for “Social Emotional Recreation Vocation Education,” targets socially and academically at-risk students.
The teams arrived at Ruby Drive in the morning with holiday gifts for all 82 Preppy K and kindergarten students. They also brought over a “Buddy Bench” made by SERVE/BITA (Building Industry Technology Academy).
Each high schooler partnered with a Ruby Drive kindergartner, and together they sang Christmas carols, read books and played together during recess. The Ruby Drive students also performed a song for their guests. Finally, the youngsters were able to open their presents.
It was a wonderful morning filled with music, laughter and holiday cheer!
