The 46th annual Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Band Pageant took place on Wednesday, November 2, at Bradford Stadium in Placentia. Students from all six PYLUSD middle schools and all four PYLUSD comprehensive high schools joined together to perform both individually and cohesively in front of thousands of cheering loved ones, teachers, staff, school and district administrators, and community members.
Following a performance of parade marches from each color guard and band, PYLUSD Superintendent Dr. Michael Matthews then welcomed attendees and thanked everyone for their continued support of arts education and students’ overall success.
“Our district has a rich reputation for offering exceptional opportunities in academics, athletics, and activities as well as a special devotion to our visual and performing arts programs.” Dr. Matthews shared. “We should all be proud that nearly 4,100 elementary students in 4th through 6th grade receive music instruction each week while another 1,600 students at our secondary schools participate in a wide variety of band, string, and vocal music offerings. Our outstanding music teachers and support staff provide our students with the programs and skills necessary to progress as artists while deepening their passion for the arts.”
Brad Davis, the band director at Esperanza High School, then lead all ten bands on the field at once as they performed “Star Spangled Banner” and “Spirit of America” together.
Before a brief intermission and the individual field shows, the high school drumlines combined to showcase their rhythmic skills as one. The annual District Band Pageant was a wonderful evening filled with imaginative music, extraordinary talents, spectacular pageantry, and a ton of PYLUSD pride.
