Inaugural Class of PYLUSD Next Generation Science Standards Certified Instructors Finish Yearlong Course

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District is thrilled to extend its heartfelt congratulations to the pioneering cohort of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Certified instructors. This esteemed group of educators has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing science education, dedicating 30 hours to intensive study, discussion, and the creation of innovative transfer tasks.

Led by the district’s Science Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSAs), Jen Luchesi-Fouladi and Lisa Gersbacher, the year-long course was designed to equip teachers with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the evolving landscape of science instruction. Throughout the program, participants delved deep into the principles of NGSS, exploring the fundamental shifts in teaching practices necessary to cultivate scientific literacy and critical thinking skills among students.

The culmination of this transformative journey was marked by a showcase event, where the 17 dedicated educators unveiled their instructor-created 5-E lessons. These meticulously crafted lessons not only exemplify the expertise and creativity of the participants but also serve as a testament to their shared vision of fostering excellence in science education.
