Esperanza High School’s boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams showcased their exceptional talent and determination at the highly competitive CIF State Championships, held at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield from February 27 to March 1. The Aztecs made a lasting impression, securing two coveted 2025 CIF State Championship titles.
Freshman Sammy Sanchez and junior Olivia Davis etched their names in history, becoming the first boy and girl from the same school to claim state titles in the same season, a remarkable achievement for the program. Demonstrating their strength and skill, the boys’ team finished an impressive 8th place out of over 800 schools. Other standout performances included sophomore Max Murillo’s 4th place finish and freshman Chris Arreola’s 5th place finish, further cementing the Aztecs’ dominance at the state level.Way to go Aztecs!
