On May 24, 2025, four high schools within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District—Yorba Linda High School, El Dorado High School, Valencia High School, and Esperanza High School—collaborated to host the inaugural “Heritage in Bloom” cultural performance event in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.
Organized by the Asian Pacific Islander Student Union (APISU) clubs at each participating campus, the event took place at Yorba Linda High School and was emceed by student leaders serving as club presidents from three of the schools. “Heritage in Bloom” provided a vibrant and enriching platform for students to honor and share the rich traditions, cultures, and histories of the AAPI community.
The program featured a dynamic lineup of student performances, including classical Indian dance, Korean vocal performances, and orchestral pieces, all presented by high school students across the district. In addition to the on-stage presentations, attendees were invited to explore a variety of cultural booths and sample traditional snacks, creating an immersive and educational experience for all.
“Heritage in Bloom” not only served as a celebration of cultural identity and unity but also represented a successful example of cross-campus collaboration and student-led leadership within PYLUSD. Organizers intend to make this an annual tradition, further strengthening community ties and continuing to elevate student voice through cultural expression.
