Teachers attend professional development classes on Saturdays

Several very dedicated teachers attended Extending Children’s Mathematics (ECM) training on Saturdays this year. Teachers could choose to attend training on a weekday or on a Saturday. The Saturday option helped to keep the teachers in the classroom where they want to be – with students – and helped the district cover classes during the substitute teacher shortage. ECM training supports students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics. Trainers from the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) and Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI)/ECM coach Stephanie Dempsey provided teachers with strategies that help students develop mathematical thinking and communication skills.
