On Friday, September 19, CBS/KCAL’s Morning Show featured its widely viewed “Friday Morning Pep Rally” segment, spotlighting outstanding high schools across Los Angeles and Orange counties. The broadcast highlighted Yorba Linda High School (YLHS) as the Mustangs prepared for their first home football game of the season against Tustin High School.
The segment demonstrated the Mustangs’ commitment to fostering student engagement, athletic excellence, and community pride. Under the bright lights of live television, the YLHS football team, marching band and color guard, cheerleaders, song and dance teams, and members of the Associated Student Body (ASB) collaborated to create a dynamic atmosphere reminiscent of a collegiate game day experience.
As part of the broadcast, CBS/KCAL conducted on-air interviews with members of the YLHS community. Football Head Coach Jeff Bailey shared insights on the team’s preparation and spirit, while student-athlete representatives—including Onassis Lim (12th Grade, Linebacker), Blakeslee Thorp (12th Grade, Defensive Lineman), Jake Lopez (12th Grade, Defensive Back), and Vaughn Sharp (12th Grade, Running Back/Linebacker) spoke about their excitement and commitment to representing their school.
ASB leaders also participated in the interviews, highlighting their role in uniting the student body and cultivating school pride. Those featured included Cienna Olsen (ASB President, 12th Grade), Chelsey Natividad (Senior Class President, 12th Grade), Katherine Farer (Rallies Commissioner, 12th Grade), and Onassis Lim (Spirit Commissioner, 12th Grade).
This high-energy showcase reflected more than athletic preparation; it underscored the school’s dedication to promoting unity, leadership, and school spirit. Way to go Mustangs!
