PYLUSD Drivers Compete in 63rd Annual School Bus Safety Roadeo

On April 25, 2026, four Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) transportation professionals, Linda Jackson, Jorge Ruiz, Joseph Bueno, and Corie Damschen, represented the District at the 63rd Annual Casto Chapter 2 / OCDTAC School Bus Safety Roadeo held at Whittier Christian High School.

The annual event brought together more than 70 school bus drivers from 15 school districts and transportation contractors throughout California to participate in a series of skill-based safety competitions designed to promote excellence in student transportation. Participants demonstrated their expertise through a variety of driving challenges, including student loading procedures, parallel parking, and precision backing maneuvers using buses up to 40 feet in length. Drivers also completed a comprehensive written assessment focused on school transportation laws, safety standards, and operational regulations.

In preparation for the competition, PYLUSD’s participants dedicated significant personal time to refining their skills and strengthening their knowledge of transportation safety practices. Their efforts were supported by colleagues, friends, and family members who attended the event to encourage and celebrate their commitment to student safety.

The School Bus Safety Roadeo serves as an important professional development opportunity that emphasizes continuous improvement, technical proficiency, and safe transportation practices. Through events such as these, school transportation professionals reinforce the critical role they play in ensuring students are transported safely, responsibly, and efficiently each day.
