Four Valencia High School students from the Val Tech and International Baccalaureate (IB) academies put their engineering and automotive skills to the test by helping build a custom Subaru Baja XTi that competed in the inaugural 600-mile Colorado Adventure Rally.
Through a summer internship with Rally Innovations, seniors Konhee Lee, Danny Camino, and Kai Lopez helped design, fabricate, and assemble the rally-ready vehicle. Featuring a 300-horsepower STI engine, custom CAD-designed components, a 2-inch lift, and a student-fabricated bed cage, the Subaru Baja XTi successfully tackled extreme temperatures exceeding 108°F, mountain passes reaching 11,990 feet, and rugged gravel roads.
Applying skills gained through Val Tech coursework and Valencia High School’s ZenSpeed car club, the students helped the team achieve an impressive fourth-place finish. Their accomplishment was also featured in OVR Magazine, highlighting their innovation, technical expertise, and hands-on learning experience.
Congratulations to these talented Tigers on their outstanding achievement! Special thanks to Rally Innovations for its continued partnership and commitment to providing students with meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.
