El Camino Real students visit Cypress College to explore automotive careers

In September, 35 students from El Camino Real High School visited Cypress College to attend an event sponsored by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

The list of presenters included representatives from Hellwig (load and sway control products), Formula DRIFT, Toyota Motor Sales, Edelbrock (engineering, machining, pattern making and tooling) and DUB Magazine. The six-hour presentation included a tour of the automotive department at Cypress, an awesome car show, a raffle and a catered lunch.

The highlight of the day was listening to Myles Kovacs, president and founder of DUB Magazine, who was named one of the “10 Big Thinkers for Big Business in the 21st century” by Newsweek magazine. He was born in a tough neighborhood in East Los Angeles, and overcame much adversity. He shared his insights regarding turning pain into strength.

The conference was motivational, and students got great exposure to many careers in the automotive aftermarket.
