El Dorado theatre students bring home several Cappie awards

On Sunday, May 22, members of the El Dorado High School Theatre Department were honored at the Orange County Cappies awards ceremony. The Cappies – “Critics and Awards Program” – is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers. At the awards ceremony, these student-critics recognize the work of outstanding high school performers and technicians at a Tony Awards-style celebration.

EDHS students nominated as one of the top five in their category included supporting actress Katarina Blagojevic as Yonah in Children of Eden; dancer Carissa Hamann as the Dove in Children of Eden; choreographers Hunter Nelson and Carissa Hamann for Children of Eden; and stage managers Hannah Dorf and Devon Webb for Children of Eden.

Bringing home top honors were Xander Pietenpol, winner of Male Vocalist of the Year for his role of Father in Children of Eden, and Samantha Pietenpol, who was selected as Sophomore Critic of the Year. Elise Anderson, Amy Leonard, McKayla McCune and Rachel Gray were also recognized as commendees for their outstanding contributions to the theatre program at El Dorado.

Congratulations to all the students for their accomplishments!
