Retired Ruby Drive put a patriotic twist on Read Across America Day for students

Ruby Drive students.

To celebrate Read Across America Day, the Ruby Drive Elementary School Library had two very special visitors — retired school teachers Penny Thurmond and Sharon Rehmeyer, who represented the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

They donated a book to the library called “A is for Abigail: An Almanac of Amazing American Women.”  The teachers read excerpts from this book to kindergartners, who were very good listeners. The grand finale was showing the students how Betsy Ross made the stars that are on the American flag. They showed the wide-eyed students how to cut out a 5-point star in one snip of the scissors!
