The Valadez Middle School Academy Guitar Club is an after school club that meets once a week after school. Teacher Drew Putman started the club in 2010 after hearing that so many students wanted to learn how to play the guitar.
Students could not afford to purchase their own guitar, so Mr. Putman applied for and received the City of Placentia’s “Cultural Arts Project for Every Student” grant, otherwise known as C.A.P.E.S. With the C.A.P.E.S. grant and additional support from Donors Choose, the Valadez Eagles now have an inventory of more than 20 guitars.
In the club, students are taught basic chords while learning how to play current songs. A highlight of the Valadez Guitar Club is when former students come back to jam, showoff their improved skills, and mentor beginning students.
Rock on, Valadez Middle School Academy Guitar Club!
