On Tuesday, May 22, students from GEAR UP Leadership, GEAR UP, ASB, and Link Crew at Valencia High School (VHS) attended a field trip to the Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles for a screening of short films created by young filmmakers to change the conversation about suicide prevention and mental health. Valencia’s leaders were able to learn about warning signs for suicide and how young people can be supportive of a friend in emotional distress or with mental health challenges.
“Our leaders really enjoyed the event and were encouraged to find ways to spread suicide prevention and mental health awareness on our own campus,” shared Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Teacher, Matt Vasquez. “I’m excited for what we’ll able to accomplish on our campus next year in this incredibly important area.”
