On October 23 and 24, both the El Dorado High School Vocal Ensemble and Advanced Women’s Ensemble kicked off the first of this year’s seven planned festivals at the Vanguard University Invitational Choir Festival. The festival invites top performing choirs throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire to perform in a non-competitive format. Each choir is adjudicated by a professional in the choral music community, who provides them with valuable feedback.
According to Director of Choral Music, Ryan Yoder, the EDHS auditioned choirs have been preparing for this since before school began, starting with a week long summer rehearsal camp in August. Both choirs attended separate festivals and presented ten minutes of advanced choral repertoire.
“They represented our school and district well these past few days,” Yoder shared.
Advanced Women’s Ensemble was adjudicated by composer, conductor, and author Dr. Diane “Dee” White-Clayton and were praised for their beautiful tone and musical phrasing. Vocal Ensemble had the privilege of working with Dr. Anna Hamre, former Director of Choral Activities at Fresno State, who applauded their expressiveness and excellent musicianship.
