On Sunday, December 2, El Dorado High School (EDHS) Vocal Ensemble was one of 29 school, community, and college choirs selected across Southern California to perform in Disneyland’s Candlelight Processional & Ceremony. The choir went through a vigorous audition process and was honored to be selected from the over 80 choirs who auditioned. Following selection, the choir had to prepare 12 pieces of music and attend regional rehearsals with the Walt Disney Company a few weeks prior to the performance.
At Disneyland, the Candlelight Processional and Ceremony is traditionally scheduled twice nightly during the first weekend of December and is held at the Main Street U.S.A. Train Station. The 45-minute show is a musical retelling of “The First Christmas” story through song and scripture, featuring a mass choir as the centerpiece of the show. The Disneyland Symphony Orchestra, fanfare trumpets, hand bell ringers, and a celebrity narrator join the choir in this joyous holiday tradition. This year’s celebrity narrator was actor, Chris Pratt!
“We were honored to be chosen for such a prestigious occasion to represent our school and district,” Director of Choral Music, Ryan Yoder, mentioned. “The students and myself were also thankful to have our Principal, Mr. Joey Davis in attendance amongst other EDHS students and staff.”
