Congratulations to the Valencia High School (VHS) Science Olympiad team for a 7th place finish out of 34 excellent Orange County teams. VHS placed in the top six in eight of the 23 events, including a 2nd place in Experimental Design and a 3rd in Disease Detectives.
The 19 student VHS team was coached by a team of 11 science teachers including Head Coach Brent Shenton and teachers Erica Aronson, Rebecca Bonet, Linda Crossno, Linda Leonard, Leina Rizzo, Leslie Rose, Jocelyn Young, Brady Bilhartz, Geoff Rizzie, and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Science Facilitator, Will Truong. The ownership of the Science Olympiad coaching duties by the entire Valencia science department is impressive, and uncommon among the other teams.
While 7th place is just outside of qualifying for the State level as only six teams qualify, VHS is proud of their students and teachers for their collective commitment to science achievement and excellence.
The students on this year’s team include Nigam Vadecha, Donovan Nguyen, Kamron Popal, Woohyun (Joshua) Song, Chris Leung, Aayush Somani, Joey Park, Andy Hon, Himanshu Kaushik, Nathan Kim, Sharon Wang, Magen Pham, Connie Chang-Chien, Nicole Park, Jiwon Jeong, Audrey Leung, Hunter Cheng, Keren Choi, and William Chung.
Great work, Tigers!
