Mabel Paine’s new RTI teacher, Stacy Hoffman, is a bright and shining star

As part of “Project Read,” PYLUSD’s reading program, Mabel Paine Elementary School response to intervention (RTI) teacher Stacy Hoffman wears a red hat with a new “red word” on it every day when she picks up her first and second grade students for reading group.

Red words are words that do not follow the phonics rules, and must be memorized.

Mabel Paine students wait in anticipation for Miss Hoffman to arrive in their classrooms each morning, and then say the word as soon as they see her. After the lesson, both Miss Hoffman and her students wear the red words on stickers adhered to their shirts all day.

Miss Hoffman is one of our district’s newest teachers — she previously worked as a childcare teacher at Tynes Elementary School — and Mabel Paine is so lucky to have her as its RTI teacher.
