PYLUSD schools pay tribute to 9/11 with Patriot Day activities and more

Fairmont elementary students on Patriot Day.

Each year, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) joins the nation in remembering the thousands of Americans who lost their lives as a result of the attacks on September 11, 2001, including the brave first responders. Every year on September 11, known as Patriot Day, PYLUSD facilities fly flags at half-staff and all schools hold special activities in remembrance.

This year schools encouraged students to wear red white and blue, decorated campuses with patriotic colors, held moments of silence and flag ceremonies, shared about the day’s historical significance through morning and video announcements, and more.

One example of this spirit was on display at Fairmont Elementary as students and staff celebrated Patriot Day on Friday, September 10. The school hosted an outdoor assembly, which featured well-known American tunes played by Bernardo Yorba Middle School band members and poems read by Fairmont students. The purpose of the assembly was to honor the heroes that currently serve and have served the nation in the past.

Fairmont honored the family members of students by inviting them to the front of the stage for a special recognition. The staff and students of Fairmont Elementary thank are grateful to all of the nation’s heroes!
