Eighth graders in Kraemer Middle School’s nationally recognized AVID program recently competed in collaborative teams to plan, design, and decorate the best AVID-inspired pumpkins.
Students first came up with a plan that would honor a chosen staff member as well as incorporate the AVID college and career-ready theme. Then, using paint pens and pumpkins donated by a local community member, student teams put their designs into action.
In true competition style, awards were presented to student teams with the best pumpkins overall, but the best reward was delivering the pumpkins to their very surprised and grateful chosen staff member along with a note saying, “Happy Halloween from AVID! We decorated this pumpkin for you. We hope you like it! Thank you for everything you do for Kraemer students every day!”
Ultimately, everyone won! Kraemer looks a little more festive this Halloween season and Kraemer’s AVID family had a great time while practicing their skills of teamwork, college research, the design process, and altruism.
