Valencia Future Business Leaders place second at Southern Section Leadership Conference

Valencia High School’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America just scored their personal best in the Southern Section Leadership Conference held earlier in February. The school had nine students win their events and the chapter placed second in Sweepstakes. The Southern Section Leadership Conference took place at Valencia High School.

VHS had a total of 35 students qualify for competition at the State Leadership Conference in Sacramento in late April. The Tigers are well-balanced with nine qualifiers for freshmen, juniors, and seniors; with the sophomores having eight qualifiers.

To add to the good news, Valencia continued their dominance in the economics competition with Darshil Vaishnav (12) taking first place, Steven Segawa (12) right behind him in 2nd, and Aina Pan (11) in 6th. These young Tigers dominated the Introduction to FBLA competition—Dillon Joo (10), Skyler Kim (10), and Evan Park (10) taking first, second, and fourth place respectively. Another three qualified for the Insurance & Risk Management, in First Place – Ray Tan (11); Celeste Paik (11) took 3rd; and Guande Xin (12) placed 6th.

Meanwhile seniors took home hardware in these events:
1st Place – Katelyn Park and Sarah Lee in Sports & Entertainment Management.
4th Place – Mancheon Park in Marketing.
5th Place – Brandon Xa in Computer Problem Solving.
5th Place – Kevin Jeon in Securities and Investments

3rd Place – Amanda Liu in Public Speaking
3rd Place – Annesha Cain in Agribusiness

4th Place – Ruth Jacobs in Advertising

Additionally, our Sophomores showed up big in these events:
2nd Place – Yamini Vunguturi – Future Business Leader
3rd Place – Skyler Kim – Impromptu Speaking
3rd Place – Timothy Yoo – Introduction to Public Speaking
5th Place – Dillon Joo – Introduction to Information Technology

Freshmen are leading the way into a bright future:

Second Place – Erica Zhang in Creed
Third Place – Sophia Raja in Introduction to Business Communication
Fourth Place – Irene Pan in Introduction to Business Communication
Sixth Place – Angela Yao in Introduction to Business Concepts
Sixth Place – Emi Sasijima in Introduction to Business Procedures
Sixth Place – Jacob Kang & Gautham Venguswany in International Business

The Tigers’ success has been bolstered by an increase in interest by lower classmen. They have more 9th-grade members than ever before! It’s an exciting time to be involved in FBLA at Valencia!

“We owe a big debt to the new and veteran Business Teachers talking up our program and the opportunities offered by FBLA,” Joy Millam, Teacher Librarian and FBLA Coach shared. “Giant thanks to Fred Jenkins for his brilliance in teaching Economics. Valencia has dominated the Econ event for the 10 years I’ve been involved in FBLA. Our National Champion, Chris Leung (now at UCLA) has always said that Mr. Jenkins was the reason for his success.”
