The Orange County School Nurses Coalition (OCSNO) and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Lead School Nurse Michelle DeHaven were recently commended for their dedication to promoting the health and safety of local schoolchildren. On September 27, representatives from The Raise Foundation, Orange County’s Child Abuse Prevention Council, presented Nurse DeHaven, OCSNC Chairperson, and her fellow board members with the 2023 Shining Light Award.
Annually, this nonprofit organization acknowledges a community member or collective entity that has harnessed its influence to make a positive difference in the lives of students and families throughout Orange County.
The Orange County School Nurses Coalition is made up of healthcare professionals representing the 28 school districts within the county. Its primary mission is to advocate for the creation of healthy and secure educational environments within school campuses. Coalition members play a crucial role in bridging the gap between students, staff, families, and healthcare providers.
Nurse DeHaven shared her thoughts on this recognition, saying, “This recognition has inspired us to continue to work hard at fostering the maximum health and education potential of children and youth. The collaborative efforts of the Raise Foundation have been such a valuable resource to our dedicated school nurses and we are fortunate to have prevention programs and services as a support to us. On behalf of OCSNO, our Board, and members, we thank them once again for this honor.”
