Hundreds of PYLUSD Students Receive Free Backpacks and School Supplies at Family Resource Center Distribution Event

Family Resource Center Distribution.

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Family Resource Center held a mid-year backpack and school supply distribution on February 12. Over 350 McKinney Vento students and their families came by the center at Topaz Elementary School in Fullerton to receive their free backpacks with school supplies provided by Supply Bank, also known as K to College. K to College is the largest charitable program of its kind in California, providing learning-related supplies to homeless, foster, and other low-income students throughout the state.

The McKinney Vento program supports students and families who are in a transitional housing situation, such as sharing a home, living in a motel/hotel, or in a shelter, park, or campground. Funds are provided to PYLUSD through both state and federal grants to support these vulnerable students. The Family Resource Center assists these families in a myriad of ways, including assistance with food, clothing, school needs, and referrals to outside agencies.

Jon Matson, PYLUSD McKinney Vento Liaison commented, “It is so helpful to our families to receive this mid-year assistance with school supplies. We appreciate our partnership with Supply Bank so much.  They have helped out so many children over the years.”

If you would like to assist the district’s McKinney Vento student population in any way, please contact Jon Matson or Karina Luna at the Family Resource Center at Topaz Elementary School at 714-986-7028.
