El Dorado Legal Thunder Event Links ED LAW Academy Students to Wide Array of Legal Professionals

Legal thunder event.

The El Dorado High School ED LAW Program recently hosted its first of several Legal Thunder panels for the 2023-2024 school year. Legal Thunder is a panel interview session where ED LAW students can ask questions and learn more about the many different aspects of the legal profession.

Thanks to Academy Coordinator, Mrs. Sunshine Cavalluzzi, the event had record attendance and a great turnout of professionals for students to learn from. For this session, four panels were offered including one focused on criminal law with a criminal attorney from both the prosecution and defense side of the law and a DA investigator. Another panel featured female civil attorneys who founded and own their own law firms. Next, state and federal judges, all of whom are EDHS alumni, made up a panel. The last panel was coined the “Alumni Mixtape,” which included an all-alumni panel from across the legal profession. Panelists consisted of eight Golden Hawk alumni and five Golden Hawk parents. Each panel session was moderated by ED LAW student leaders.

At the end of the night, Mrs. Cavalluzzi asked students to reflect on what they learned. Here is what stood out to one student:

“Something that I heard last night that particularly interested me last night was that your reputation is very important and what you do in your early life. At least one person from each room told us that who you hang out with, surround yourself with and pretty much everything will be background checked which is why it’s so important to be kind. This just really stuck out to me because one girl said when she was being background checked they asked her cat-sitting job.”

ED LAW is a legal career-themed academy available only at El Dorado High School in Placentia. Visit www.edlawacademy.com/ for more information.
