On February 28, Linda Vista Elementary School hosted its annual community read event in conjunction with Read Across America and Career Day. Distinguished members of the community gathered to read their favorite books to students in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade.
Guest readers included Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Board Trustee Leandra Blades, El Dorado High School Assistant Principal Allie Lloyd, Yorba Linda Middle School Principal Paige Stills, Yorba Linda Mayor Janice Lim, Yorba Linda librarians, Miss Placentia, Miss Yorba Linda, Miss Canyon Hills, parent volunteers, and former teachers.
Principal Kathleen Nappi expressed her appreciation, stating, “Our students are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and passionate volunteers who take the time to engage with them. Their participation not only enhances our school-wide literacy efforts but also reinforces the importance of community involvement in fostering a love of reading. We are truly thankful for their unwavering support, which plays a crucial role in inspiring our students to become lifelong readers.”
Read Across America Day, launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), was designed to encourage children to read. Over time, the event has evolved into a year-round program with special celebrations held each March.
