On Monday, March 31, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) hosted the annual district-wide art show, Artworks, at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda. This event provided a vibrant showcase of student creativity, featuring a wide array of artistic mediums, including acrylic and oil paintings, watercolors, ceramics, and photography. The exhibit highlighted the artistic talents of students ranging from transitional kindergarten through twelfth grade.
The selection process for Artworks is rigorous and deliberate, with artwork chosen by dedicated art educators within the district. These teachers carefully curate a collection each year that reflects the diversity and richness of student expression throughout PYLUSD.
Artworks distinguishes itself from traditional art competitions by focusing on the celebration of artistic expression rather than awards or rankings. Every piece is displayed with the intent of honoring its unique narrative and aesthetic qualities. This year, however, the Richard Nixon Library extended special recognition to the five winners of the Artworks Poster Contest in acknowledgment of their exceptional contributions.
The success of Artworks is made possible through the steadfast support of the REACH Foundation and the dedicated efforts of Visual Arts Coordinator and El Dorado High School teacher Audra Ross. This annual event serves not only as an art exhibition but as a testament to the imagination, creativity, and collaborative spirit fostered among PYLUSD students and educators.
Artworks is open to the public from April 1 through April 28, 2025, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.. Special closing receptions will take place on April 28, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission to the Artworks exhibition is free for all PYLUSD community members.
