Golden Elementary Champions Reading and Teamwork in Annual Literacy Competition

On March 26, 2025, Golden Elementary School proudly hosted its annual Battle of the Books competition, marking another successful year for this beloved literacy tradition. The event brought together 23 teams composed of 119 highly motivated and enthusiastic students, all of whom demonstrated remarkable commitment to reading and academic collaboration.

Each team undertook the rigorous challenge of reading 20 selected books in preparation for the competition. Participants worked collectively to answer comprehensive questions designed to assess their understanding and recall of each text. The result was a vibrant, high-energy event that celebrated not only a love for literature but also the values of teamwork, critical thinking, and school spirit.

This successful event would not have been possible without the leadership of Mrs. Woinarowicz and the dedicated efforts of Golden Elementary’s staff and faculty. From reading and reviewing the selected titles to developing thoughtful questions and facilitating the event, their contributions were instrumental in creating a meaningful and memorable experience for all involved.

Special recognition is extended to the first-place team, comprised of six outstanding fifth-grade students: Nina Yu, Maggie Du, Allison Mar, Julia Kang, Nava Stempinski, and Debra Lu. Their impressive teamwork and deep engagement with the literature distinguished them as this year’s champions.

The 2025 Battle of the Books served as a powerful celebration of literacy and community at Golden Elementary. The school community eagerly anticipates next year’s event and the continued promotion of reading excellence among its students.
