Sierra Vista Celebrates Literacy Night with Families

On April 9, Sierra Vista Elementary recently hosted its “A Whale of a Tale” Literacy Night, an engaging event designed to highlight the importance of reading comprehension and strengthen the home-school connection. Organized by Transitional Kindergarten teachers Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Garcia, along with 4th grade teachers Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Lopez, the evening offered families a variety of interactive opportunities to support literacy development at home.

The event featured hands-on stations where parents could explore practical strategies to help enhance their children’s reading comprehension skills. Teachers also led informative sessions focused on supporting students with both informational and narrative texts. As an added bonus, the first 25 families who RSVP’d received special informational picture books, and two families were selected in a raffle to win either a literacy-themed book basket or a Barnes & Noble gift card.

The strong turnout underscored Sierra Vista’s commitment to fostering a love of literacy and building meaningful partnerships with families. The school community continues to emphasize that literacy is the cornerstone of lifelong learning and is grateful for the enthusiastic participation of its families in events like this.
