March Board Meeting Showcases Venture Academy Performances and Celebrates Academic Competition Successes

On Tuesday, March 10, during the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education meeting, the Board formally recognized the outstanding accomplishments of the El Dorado High School Mock Trial Team and the Esperanza High School Aztecs Competitive Cheer Team.

The El Dorado High School Golden Hawks Mock Trial Team was named the 2025–26 Orange County Champion, culminating an exceptional season in one of the largest county Mock Trial competitions in the state. This championship represents the program’s ninth Orange County title and its first consecutive county championship, further solidifying El Dorado’s reputation as the most successful Mock Trial program in Orange County history. Notably, El Dorado remains the only school to have secured a county championship in every decade since the inception of the Orange County Mock Trial program.

As a result of this achievement, the team has qualified to compete in the California Mock Trial State Finals, scheduled to take place March 20–22 in Oakland. Over the course of approximately 26 hours of competition, the team will participate in four rigorous rounds against top teams representing 36 counties across the state.

In addition to the team’s success, El Dorado High School student Seylah Bae earned the title of Orange County Champion in this year’s Courtroom Art Contest. This distinguished competition allows artistically talented students to engage with the Mock Trial program by observing courtroom proceedings and producing detailed illustrations that mirror the work of professional courtroom sketch artists. As the top finisher in Orange County, Bae has also qualified to compete at the state championships, where participants will have the opportunity to further develop their skills through workshops led by professional courtroom artists.

During the same meeting, the Board also recognized the Esperanza High School Aztecs Competitive Cheer Team for capturing the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA Traditional Competitive Cheer Championship. This milestone achievement marks a significant moment in the program’s history and reflects the dedication, discipline, and collaborative spirit of the student-athletes and their coaching staff.

A key factor in Esperanza’s victory was the team’s ability to execute high-difficulty skills with near-flawless synchronization, combined with strong crowd engagement and exceptional team energy. Coaches attribute the team’s success to countless hours of practice, meticulous attention to detail, and strong team chemistry, all of which helped the Aztecs rise above a highly competitive field. The continued support of families and the program’s Booster Club also played an important role in the team’s achievement.
