On Tuesday, May 13, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) hosted its annual Induction Showcase at Lakeview Elementary School. The event recognized 34 first-year and 40 second-year Induction Candidates for their demonstrated proficiency in the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
In California, new teachers must complete a two-tiered credentialing system that includes coursework, fieldwork, and a two-year induction program providing extensive support and mentoring. School districts are tasked with offering induction programs to guide teachers towards a comprehensive understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Upon completion, teachers earn a California Clear Credential.
The celebration was attended by Vice President Carrie Buck, alongside members of the district’s leadership team, and Linda Manion, President of the Association of Placentia-Linda Educators (APLE). Representatives from Grand Canyon University and SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, sponsors of the PYLUSD Induction Program, were also in attendance. Trustee Carrie Buck and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Dr. Olivia Yaung addressed the attendees, offering words of wisdom and praise to the new teachers.
The program featured exit interviews, during which Induction Candidates articulated the goals they pursued throughout their induction experience. These reflections were followed by Dr. Yaung and Induction Coordinator Cam Castaneda presented certificates and mentor remarks highlighting the individual growth and accomplishments of each teacher.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Mentor Service Award to veteran teacher and longtime mentor Wendy Umekubo, in recognition of her outstanding contributions and unwavering dedication to the Induction Program.
The Induction Showcase served as a meaningful celebration of professional growth and mentorship within PYLUSD, underscoring the district’s commitment to supporting and developing high-quality educators.
