PYLUSD Family Resource Center Provides Over 730 McKinney-Vento Students with Free Backpacks and School Supplies

PYLUSD Family Resource Center Distributes Free Backpacks and School Supplies to Over 730McKinney-Vento Students

On August 22, 2025, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Family Resource Center held its annual backpack and school supply distribution event at Topaz Elementary School. More than 730 students received essential school supplies to help them start the new school year ready to learn.

The event supports students and families enrolled in the McKinney-Vento program, which serves those experiencing transitional housing situations such as living in shelters, motels or hotels, shared housing, or other temporary accommodations. Additionally, students in the Foster Youth program were also invited to receive supplies and support.

PYLUSD receives both state and federal funding to serve these student populations. Through the Family Resource Center, the district offers a wide range of assistance, including food, clothing, school supplies, and referrals to community-based resources.

This year, backpack donations were generously provided by the REACH Foundation and Orange County’s Fourth District Supervisor, Doug Chaffee. Representatives from both organizations helped distribute the supplies, alongside 20 dedicated PYLUSD high school student volunteers, and staff from Orange County Department of Education.

Additionally, Family Health Matters hosted an on-site vision clinic, offering free eye exams to over 20 community members, including students.

If you would like to support the district’s McKinney-Vento student population, please contact Karina Luna at the Family Resource Center at (714) 986-7028.
