On Sunday, February 1, 2026, Esperanza High School hosted a special reunion to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its 1986 Baseball Team’s National Championship season.
During the historic 1986 season, the Aztecs earned Empire League and CIF 4A Championship titles and were named National Champions by USA Today News. The celebration also honored Head Coach Mike Curran, whose #23 jersey was officially retired in recognition of his Hall of Fame career and lasting impact on Esperanza athletics.
Reuniting on campus were former team members Greg Beckman, Kevin Clancy, Emmit Cohick, Eric Cox, Andy Escobar, Tim MacNeil, David Moralez, along with Head Coach Mike Curran and Athletic Director Jim Patterson.
The event highlighted the enduring legacy of excellence and pride established by one of the most accomplished teams in Esperanza High School history.
