On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Morse Elementary School achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to educational excellence, earning validation as an AVID National Demonstration School. This prestigious recognition acknowledges the school’s sustained, multi-year implementation of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) framework and its dedication to fostering a culture of high expectations, student achievement, and college and career readiness. Morse Elementary becomes the second elementary school in Orange County to receive this distinction, following fellow Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District school Ruby Drive Elementary.
Notably, Morse Elementary achieved National Demonstration School status without first serving as an AVID Showcase School, a testament to the strength and fidelity of its implementation efforts. With this accomplishment, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District proudly joins an elite group of only eight school districts nationwide with four or more AVID National Demonstration Schools.
This recognition reflects years of dedicated work by Principal Kelly Farrell, teachers, staff, and the entire Morse Elementary community. Through a shared belief that all students can succeed when provided with the appropriate support, opportunities, and rigorous learning experiences, the school has cultivated an environment where students are empowered to thrive academically and personally.
The AVID validation team commended Morse Elementary’s commitment to instructional excellence, student engagement, and schoolwide systems that promote equity and achievement for all learners. The recognition serves as a powerful affirmation of the school’s unwavering focus on preparing students for future success while fostering a culture of collaboration, inquiry, and continuous improvement.
The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District looks forward to formally celebrating this remarkable achievement and recognizing the Morse Elementary community at an upcoming Board of Education meeting.
