Buena Vista Virtual Academy (BVVA) held its 6th annual graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 9 at the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Performing Arts Center. In total, the school awarded 38 students their high school diplomas including 37 seniors and 1 juniors as early graduates.
To begin the ceremony, Principal Dominique Polchow welcomed those in attendance including BVVA students, staff, families, and distinguished guests such as Board of Education Trustee Marilyn Anderson and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Deputy Superintendent, Academic Leadership Team Dr. Candace Perez, Chief Business Officer, Dr. John Pappalardo, and Assistant Director of Student Services, Tonya Gordillo.
Principal Polchow took time to share words of encouragement with the school’s graduating seniors. “Graduates, as you begin this next chapter, remember that there is no single definition of success and no single path to achieving it. Some of you are heading to college, trade schools, military service, careers, athletics, or opportunities still waiting to be discovered. Wherever life takes you, move forward with confidence, curiosity, and purpose”
BVVA student Alexander Botello then delivered student addresses in front of the energetic crowd of supporters. President Anderson then accepted the Class of 2026 as having met all the necessary requirements in order to earn their high school diplomas.
Notably, Buena Vista’s Class of 2025 includes five student who earned the Golden State Seal Merit and one received the State Seal of Civic Engagement. Over 75% are headed to two or four-year colleges following graduation and one student has committed to join a branch of the military. The class completed more than 1,368 hours of community service.
Buena Vista Virtual Academy is an online school that offers free 100% online and hybrid programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. BVVA is a supported independent study school perfect for students who want to learn on their own in a nurturing environment.
