In a continuous effort to inspire students to relentlessly reach for their dreams, Valadez Middle School Academy hosted its fourth Career Day event on Friday, April 15.
Student data gathered from the Kuder Navigator career exploration program was utilized to generate invitations to the various professionals who participated. Some high-interest careers included governance, criminology, healthcare, engineering, mental health, education and entertainment.
Valadez was honored to have 30 professionals graciously volunteer their time to present 30-minute presentations to students that included personal upbringings, education and training, challenges and fulfillment in their career path, and advice as students prepare for their own future. Additionally, many students were left with tangible items reflective of the careers they were exposed to (e.g., dental goodie bags, U.S. Navy gear, superior court gavel pencils, etc.).
The school was especially honored to have Orange County Superior Court Judge Frederick P. Aguirre and Kaiser Permanente neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU) pediatrician Dr. Myriam B. Perez – both former PYLUSD students who graduated from Valencia High School – participate in the event. Both have offered to return for future Career Day events to continue serving as active role models for the community they grew up in.
A continental breakfast hosted by the Valadez PTSA was provided at a meet-and-greet session, where teachers had the opportunity to network and exchange student learning ideas with the guests. A surprise appearance by the Ochoa Boyz added a tremendous inspirational flare to the event for students and staff alike!
The culmination of Career Day was a performance by American Idol finalist Mary Desmond. She sang songs about overcoming challenges and maintaining hope for the future.
