Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Hosts Annual Induction Showcase for 92 Teachers

PYLUSD Board of Education Celebrates 42 Community Honorees in Annual Ceremony

On Tuesday, May 21, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District held its annual Induction Showcase at Lakeview Elementary School in Yorba Linda.

In California, new teachers must complete a two-tiered credentialing system that includes coursework, fieldwork, and a two-year induction program providing extensive support and mentoring. School districts are tasked with offering induction programs to guide teachers towards a comprehensive understanding of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Upon completion, teachers earn a California Clear Credential.

During the Showcase, Board Members, district and school administrators, and induction mentors gathered to honor 50 first-year and 42 second-year teachers. These teachers demonstrated their competency in the California Standards and highlighted their accomplishments throughout the school year.

Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Dr. Olivia Yaung addressed the attendees, offering words of wisdom and praise to the new teachers.

The event featured a performance by El Dorado High School’s Choir, directed by Marlon Santizo, who is also an Induction Candidate. Retired teacher and current Induction mentor, JanMaire Halliday, received the Mentor Service Award for her outstanding dedication to the program.

To conclude the colloquium, Dr. Yaung and Induction Coordinator Cam Castaneda presented certificates of completion to each new teacher, celebrating both first and second-year completers.

Congratulations to all PYLUSD teachers!
