El Dorado High inducts two new members to Athletic Hall of Fame, recognizes 23 current athletes with Terry Conley Athlete of Character Award

El Dorado High School hall of fame inductees.

On Tuesday May 16, El Dorado High School inducted two new members into their Athletic Hall of Fame — Robert Coons and Amanda Watkins. The event was held at Alta Vista Country Club and over 150 people were in attendance. For the first time, the event was combined with the Terry Conley Athlete of Character Award which is given to a member of each varsity team that displays the character traits coach Conley was known for — honesty, compassion, courage and loyalty. Twenty-three current EDHS students were selected for the award by their varsity coaches.

Robert Coons, who competed in both baseball and football, graduated from EDHS in 1988.  In football he was all-league his junior and senior year and also played on the Orange County all star team his senior year.  After leaving EDHS, Robert competed at Fullerton College and was all-conference and all-state in football. He eventually went to the University of Pittsburgh where he earned all Big East Honors.  After graduation, Robert spent four years in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills.
The second inductee was Amanda Watkins, class of 2004. Amanda played both water polo and softball at El Dorado. El Dorado won its only CIF Softball championship with Amanda on the field in 2002. She also excelled as a goalie in water polo. She was first team all-league three years and league MVP her senior year. Amanda was also an amazing student. She was the “Hawk of the Year” for 2004 and went on to study and play softball at Harvard where she continued to be honored as an outstanding student and athlete.
Overall, the night was a great celebration of Golden Hawk student-athletes.
