On Monday, October 13, El Dorado High School’s ED LAW Academy hosted its annual Networking Mixer Experience for freshmen students. The event brought together community professionals, district leaders, and site staff who volunteered their time to engage with students in meaningful conversations about future careers. As part of their preparation, freshmen designed and printed their own business cards, which they exchanged during the mixer as they practiced professional introductions and communication skills.
The event reflects one of the ED LAW Academy’s key goals, helping students develop essential networking and interpersonal skills early in their academic journey. Coordinator Sunshine Cavalluzzi shared that the emphasis on networking grew from advice gathered from alumni and colleagues who reflected on the skills they wished they had learned sooner. Each fall, this lesson culminates in the Networking Mixer, where students apply what they’ve learned in a real-world setting.
Through this interactive experience, students strengthen their soft skills, gain confidence in professional interactions, and build connections with supportive members of the local community. “From the bubbliest extrovert to the shyest introvert to all those in between, I love watching every freshman grow through this experience, empowered and affirmed by our community and their belief in and support of them,” shared Cavalluzzi.
