Esperanza High School’s junior varsity (JV) Academic Decathlon Team did remarkably well in the 9th/10th grade Orange County Academic Decathlon competition on Saturday, May 21.
The team placed first overall team in Division 2. Also, out of 19 participating schools, Esperanza was fifth overall.
The students earned 59 individual medals (the most medals they have ever earned at a single competition). EHS also placed first and fourth in team Super Quiz (where students get to collaborate on questions and answer using transponders).
Esperanza had 16 team members this year: Mahrooz Ahmad, Emilee Carr, Kevin Choi, Gauri Deepa-Sreelal, Michael Endo, Sara Gonzalez, MIsha Hoang, Matthew Ignacio, Katie Kuwahara, Angie Long, Emily Macedo, Catie Mullner, Grace Nguyen, Emily Pandhi, Shivani Valand and Jessica Youssef.
