Carl Sweet, a former El Dorado High School teacher and coach, received this year’s CIF-SS 2016 Distinguished Service Award at a banquet at the Grand Conference Center in Long Beach on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Carl served in education for 37 years. Some of his career highlights include:
- Began at El Dorado in 1972. Started coaching football, baseball and golf.
- 1980 – Became head football coach at Hart High School (1983 Southern Section Champions).
- 1984 – Returned to El Dorado as head football coach for five years.
- 1989 – Named athletic director at El Dorado, a position he would hold for 20 years (three time league president).
- 2003 – Named California State Athletic Directors Association (CSADA) Southern Section Athletic Director of the Year.
- 2009 – Received Orange County Athletic Directors Association (OCADA) Distinguished Service Award.
- 2013 – Received Southern California Interscholastic Football Coaches Association (SCIFCA) Distinguished Service Award.
- Served on the Board of OCADA for 20 years (president for two years).
- Served on the CIF-SS Football Advisory Committee and CIF-SS Golf Advisory Committee.
- The Voice of the Southern Section – served as public address announcer for CIF-SS baseball and football championships for over 30 years.
