If you’re visiting Brookhaven Elementary School on Thursday afternoons, Mrs. Walls’ fifth grade classroom is quite a lovely site to see! Mrs. Walls hosts a Book Club for fourth through sixth grade students. She has lots of bean bag chairs, pillows and other comfortable spots for students to get comfy in, relax and read their books. Students get to eat their lunch while they enjoy the pleasure of a good book. Mrs. Walls started the club as a way to share her love of reading, and encourage students to read for pleasure. It also offers a peaceful and welcoming environment. Students can even write reviews and recommendations about their books, and post them on her Book Club bulletin board. Mrs. Walls is very excited that so many students have come to the Book Club. One week, she had over 30 students in her room reading quietly. It was great to see the older and younger students all showing respect, and sharing the love of reading as Brookhaven Bears!
