In February, Valadez Middle School Academy seventh grade AVID students were fortunate enough to travel to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point for their college and career experience field trip. The students completed numerous labs, such as dissecting squids, analyzing aquatic adaptions and building their own remote operated vehicles (ROVs). They also stayed overnight, and woke up bright and early the next day for a cruise out on the ocean. The students conducted more labs while on the cruise, including observing microscopic organisms, and examining the size of ocean creatures.
