Board honors organizers of ELD camp with award

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Board of Education presented several “You Are The Advantage” awards to representatives from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union Center for Creativity and Critical Thinking; SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union; Segerstrom Center for the Arts; and PYLUSD.

Individuals from these institutions were honored for their support of the “Fun in the Sun and Under the Sea” English Language Development (ELD) art and science pilot program that was held from Monday, July 13, through Thursday, July 23, at Melrose Elementary School. Over 150 English learners in grades three through five participated in this first-ever educational camp.

The district would also like to thank Lead Teachers for the project, Guillermina Flores-Magana and Shaelee Dunavan, as well as PYLUSD teachers and CSUF co-teachers that brought the project alive for the students.
