Naval Academy Midshipman and former student Cole Engstrom speaks to Tynes sixth graders

On Thursday, Jan. 7, Tynes Elementary School welcomed a very special visitor who presented a motivational speech designed to excite the students about their paths in middle and high school.

Cole Engstrom is currently a sophomore in the United States Naval Academy. He was student of Mrs. Pat Souto — who also currently teaches Cole’s youngest brother, Brenden — as well as a former Valencia High School “Tiger of the Year” in 2014.

Dressed in his full dress blue uniform, Midshipman Engstrom spoke to the sixth graders about what it takes to reach your goals, as well as what it’s like to attend the Naval Academy. He discussed time management, the importance of academics and participation in extracurricular activities, and how to set smaller goals in order to achieve your dreams. The students had many questions for Cole, including the differences between the Naval Academy and other colleges and universities.

Tynes Elementary is proud of ALL of Midshipman Engstrom’s accomplishments, and would like to thank him for his service to our country!

Well Done Cole! Thank you for sharing your time with our local students here in PYLUSD and for showing them that by setting small goals they can go far in life. We are very grateful for your service and wish you the best in the years ahead.
