Valencia receives donation from Raytheon to purchase 3D printer

Valencia High School recently received a $2,500 grant from Raytheon to purchase a new 3D printer for the 3D (Design-Develop-Donate) club, led by student leader Valerie Narumi and club advisor Mr. Jason Parker.

The club’s purpose is to encourage students to develop skills in coding, modeling and printing 3D objects for future STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers, and to donate designs to charitable causes.

One of the target charitable causes for the new club is e-NABLE. e-NABLE is a global network of volunteers who are using their 3D printers, design skills and personal time to create free 3D printed prosthetic hands for underserved populations around the world. Raytheon employee volunteers are also providing technical instruction and guidance to the club.

The R.E.A.C.H. Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit education foundation that works to help prepare PYLUSD students to become successful 21st century learners, assisted in receiving the grant for Valencia.

Raytheon’s philanthropic interests are focused on math and science education, as well as giving preference to regional projects that serve the broader community in locations where they have facilities (El Segundo and Fullerton). To inspire and equip students to succeed in STEM positions worldwide, Raytheon provides support to students and teachers at all levels of education. Its goal is to build the next-generation workforce that will create the next generation of paradigm-changing innovations.
