The WE Club at Travis Ranch School has been very active collecting new gently and used stuffed animals for their February campaign, creatively called “WE Care Bear” drive. As a result of their efforts, they have collected 587 stuffed animals for the Orange County Rescue Mission! This is a new campaign for the club. Early in the year, two sixth graders, Megan Hampton and Karina Shah (pictured front and center), came to the club with a proposal for the drive. The club voted to add the toy drive to their other previously scheduled service and charities for the year. Soon after, both girls enthusiastically joined the club. WE Club encourages students to help others by changing their focus from “me to we.” The “WE” in the school’s WE Club is not an acronym – it stands for “WE can do anything we set our minds to do. WE can make a difference in the world.” Students learn that they can make a difference today through service and charity, both locally and globally. No donation or action is too small to make an impact on the world. Teacher Paola Hellwig advises the predominantly student-led group, and is assisted by PTA parent representative Carrie Johnson.
